Pastel Floor - Mountain Sky

Pastel Floor - Mountain Sky. Watercolor & Gouache by Dan Buell. August 13, 2025

Aspens lift in a slender chorus,
their pale skin brushed with the dark eyes of time.
Beneath their rooted hymn,
spring spills in whispered strokes
of violet and green,
the earth a pastel quilt
stitched by light,
embroidered by wind,
held in a quiet benediction from above,
while the mountains, eternal and unblinking,
keep their solemn watch.

It’s been over two months since I last touched watercolor — life and work swept me into gouache pieces and digital sketches instead. My watercolor palette had been sitting empty, a quiet reminder of something I’d been too busy to return to.

On Sunday, I finally took a deep breath, slowed down, and set up a brand new palette (I’ll share more about that soon). Last night, I dipped my brush in for the first time in ages… and it felt like catching up with an old friend.
