New Year’s Day 2016 - The Perfect Day
Grandma and Connor came to town for the holidays, and New Year’s Day unfolded with a kind of quiet magic. We lingered over a big breakfast, then took a gentle hike at Hamilton Pool near Austin, Texas. The afternoon gave way to hours of cards and board games, laughter carrying through the house as the daylight slipped away.
It was the first day of a year that would bring many changes for our family, though in that moment none of us knew just how much. We began the year in Austin, and by December we would be calling Castle Rock, Colorado home. Looking back, I see that day as a pause before the shift—a pocket of calm at the edge of what was coming.
