Dan’s Art

My Artistic Journey

I was not born a lover of art, did not visit my first art museum until I was 44-years old (I’ve visited well over 100 all around the world now), couldn’t disseminate artists, art period or art style, I found it intimidating. My last art class was in7th grade where I got a “D” for a particularly not liked paper cache I did of a local citizen, thus ending any hope of a future with the arts. In 2006, my wife Debbie began to take art lessons, something she kept up for over ten years. As the kids were growing up, I decided, at the age of 47 that it might be nice to have a hobby in common with Debbie as we got reintroduced and used to being around each other sans kids. We went to the local Hobby Lobby, bought some supplies and later visited a local art supply store and bought some good supplies and I was hooked. I began to undertake an intensive study of how to paint (watercolor and gouache) but more importantly, began to voraciously consume hundreds of art books, visit art museums all over the globe, becoming a historian in art, an artist along the way, and an art collector. I will share my art and sell my art on this website, but I’ll also share art videos about the creative process, art supplies, etc., and I will share my favorite artists and art museums as well. There’s so much more to this story that I’m looking forward to telling, but for brevity, fast forward to today, I’ve sold over 75 pieces of my art, have significantly expanded my art collection, have painted with some of the greatest artists who are living, advised art museums, given access to art collections that others can only wish to have seen and become a scholar on art. My paintings can be found hanging on walls in several countries and over twenty-five states in the U.S., it is one of the most exciting, creatively inspiring and best parts of my lives over the last decade.
